أعلن احد المسؤولين عن فريق إنترنت إكسبلورر عن نيتهم المشاركة في وضع مواصفات النسخة القادمة من HTML 5، حيث اوضح ادريان بايتمان ان فريق إنترنت إكسبلورر يدرس الان مواصفات HTML 5 وسيقوم بالمشاركة عبر وضع الملاحظات حيث تمثل هذه خطوة بإتجاه دعم المعايير من قبل مايكروسوفت.

وليست مايكروسوفت هي الشركة الوحيدة المشاركة في تحديد خصائص HTML 5 حيث تشارك أغلب الشركات التي تقوم بإنتاج المتصفحات بدءا من موزيلا وإنتهاءا بأوبرا.

وللعلم فقد صدرت أخر نسخة من HTML وهي 4.01 في العام 1999 اي قبل عشر سنوات ومتطلبات الانترنت اصبحت مختلفة عن الانترنت قبل عشر سنوات.
