10 things I Like About Abu Dhabi

Well., it's my second visit to UAE, this time I got a better look at th country and I really think it's a beautiful country, although I don't think I can live in it permanently, well I don't know if I can live anywhere outside Amman in general...

So, in my second visit I realized there are some spects I really like in Abu Dhabi, and here's some, randomly listed...

1- You don't feel like a stranger here, because everyone is a stranger

2- A city by the sea can hardly be boring

3- They have Costa Coffee everywhere

4- The palm trees

5- I haven't seen a car like mine yet (What are the odds of spotting an Opel Corsa on the streets of Abu Dhabi or Dubai?)

6- Shopping, nuff said

7- Great ice cream joints, I'm serious the ice cream here is really good!

8- Shop signs can be hilarious sometimes, sorry I haven't taken any photoes of that yet

9- They know how to celebratea

10- The general atmosphere is reassuring, makes you feel home

I still miss Amman though, you know what's different there? Nota that I know the streets, but that I feel that the streets know me! Home sweet home...

An Open Letter to MBC Group

Usually when you read a title like this it sounds like something tactful, grave and pretty serious is about to be said. But here's my open message to MBC group: Get a Life! Now here's an open message for you, how about that?

I don't know where to start, from stupid stupid stupid shows like ET and the insider or those creepy dubbed movies?

Well, let's start with the utterly ridiculous shows since they were there first. A daily show that rarely talks about something interesting, let alone of an interest to the middle-eastern viewer. I mean, what in the world do I care, what does anybody care if John Gosling whoever he is, is doing Yoga! Yes, that's actually a piece of news, they have a picture of him taking a Yoga pose, wow! Seriously WOW!! Okay, then? What did we achieve here? The moral of the story? Someone who became famous overnight for having 8 children and is trashing his wife on TV and of course she's trashing him too and the whole thing is a large pile of white trash, and then MBC brings it to you, why? Let me make a WILD guess: because this network is getting trashier everyday and seems to think that the viewers are a bunch of morons or celebrity-obsessed fanatics… And what's even worse is that they TRANSLATE these shows! Like they really believe anybody cares!

I know that they are trying to fill the broadcast hours but then why don't they have something like the Daily Show for example? That's something of substance and will at least show that the network respects its viewers…

And what's with the dubbed movies? Couldn't they choose any other movie other that Brave Heart to BUTCHER it!! Well, at least brave heart was done is classical Arabic, the real disaster was The Godfather, dubbed in Syrian! Now that must be the most ridiculous joke in TV's history! It's a joke, right?

And what the heck is MBC3 about? I'll tell you: the definition of double standards. They pitch all kind of junk on children and they claim that they are child-friendly by editing specific scenes and manipulating the translation in a really weird way! I mean, even if you didn't translate "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" and "kiss" and "hug" as what they really mean in the context, children believe it or not are not stupid! They can get the idea, so stop treating them as a bunch of drooling chimpanzees and stop feeding them all that crap!

So, MBC, or whoever is in charge of you, get a grip! And please consider shutting down 90% of your channels, I think it would be a HUGE favor for the Arab nation!

When Your Mind Says Goodbye and Goes for a Walk

Have you ever wondered where your mind has been on a particular moment? You know those things that are real and happened for real yet they seem to be completely wiped out of your consciousness, as if for a moment you stepped out of yourself and went to live in another world…

Few moths ago I was with a friend in Mecca mall, and you know how hard it is sometime to find a certain store, especially after the extension, I imagine it can really work for one of those cut-throat challenges on Survivor or something…

So we were standing in the middle of the mall trying to decide which way to go to reach a certain store, I guess it was Accessorize, you know that place that looks all colorful and sparkly yet when you get in, even if to buy some cheesy gift for a little girl most of the things are grossly overpriced so you end up buying nothing? Anyway…

We were discussing which way to go, finally agreed on how to go about it, checked out some stores finally sat to have some lunch. So as we were having lunch (more of a supper), or maybe just before that I can't really remember but it's really irrelevant, my friend said out of nowhere:

"It's wired how some guys put themselves in awkward situtations"

I was curious why she was saying that so I asked her what's the occasion for this, so she said:

"That guy that came up to you while we were deciding on which way to go"

I was like, "what guy?"

So she said, "That guy, he stopped in front of you and asked you "where do you want to go?" and you completely ignored him so he went on his way! I was surprised actually at how spontaneously you handled the situation"

Well that's because I didn't even see or hear the guy! I couldn't remember any of that, as if there was a mist screen that made me not see him or as if that moment was blocked out so it didn't register to my conscious mind!

I wondered that maybe he was someone I know and he was trying to say hi in a rather unusual way, I don't know but I hope not because it might've made me look really bad!

I'm still curious… who on earth was that person, why didn't I see him and most importantly, was that the only time something like this happened?

If only there was a way to know!
